Colin McRae Rally 4

How much better can rally racing get?

Now this is what im talking bout, the best rally game ever! Finally there's a good one for the Xbox, with over 30 cars and 48 tracks, what can go wrong about this game?

The Features

  • All new expert Championship mode
  • 48 total tracks across 8 nations
  • Enhanced vehicle customization
  • Create custom rallies with unique stages
  • Upload best racing times to worldwide leaderboards over Xbox Live
  • Split screen play with up to four players

The different types of surfaces you're racing over in McRae 04 seem to make a huge difference in the way your vehicle handles throughout the race. Rain is that much slicker and will give you quite a headache when you're on the tarmac, but when you transition onto a dirt road, you'll instantly feel the mud slowing you down and holding your tires. Timing the use of your brakes becomes an invaluable skill since you'll do just as much sliding in loose mud as you will on rain-soaked pavement when you lock them up. You'll still have to be ready and able to counter-steer in dry conditions however and maximize your power in and out of turns. It's more or less the same physics and rubber-meeting-the-road system we've always had, but it all just seems more noticeable now.

The audio elements of have been upgraded so that the cockpit view is now more immersive than ever. You get engine sounds coming from the appropriate directions with the surround sound kicking. But the biggest thrill is hearing all sorts of rattling and crap ricocheting off of the vehicle's underside and fenders from the cockpit view. Buds that top the assortment of wild brush lining the sides of the courses will constantly slap the wafer thin outer body of the rally cars as you get sideways at 85 mph trying to correct an errant turn. It sounds like the tappity tapping of hard falling rain and give you the impression that you're at the controls of a four-wheel drive tin can.

Xbox Zone Gives it..... 9.6/10   (Excellent)
